Crisis Intervention - PEER Support

First RespondersThe El Dorado Police Department takes the mental health of our citizens and our employees seriously.

We have partnered with local mental health providers and have had officers trained to be part of a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). This allows officers to respond effectively to individuals experiencing mental health crisis and provide them with immediate support and helps connect them with the appropriate mental health resources, leading to a better outcome for the person in crisis.

To help our employees, members of the El Dorado Police Department have been trained by FRST Midwest to be a part of a PEER Support and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team. This provides employees with someone to speak with who has had similar experiences and has knowledge of how to deal with the stress or trauma they are experiencing. Team Members can provide employees with other resources if further assistance is needed.

The Police Department’s PEER Support Team also works in conjunction with other Emergency Services throughout Butler County and the Region to provide support for emergency services personnel after a critical incident has occurred. This provides those involved a structured and secure setting where they can discuss what they have gone through and how to process what has happened, reducing the risk of mental health conditions later in life.

Resources for both citizens and emergency service personnel can be found on the resources page on the El Dorado Police Department site.
