The outside westbound lane of Central Avenue at Washington is closed due to a sinkhole caused by the failure of an 18-inch clay storm sewer line.
This portion of the underground system was not replaced during the recently completed Central Avenue Improvement Project. The pipe was in serviceable condition; however, the heavy rainfall on June 3rd overwhelmed and stressed the line, leading to a washout beneath the newly resurfaced roadway.
Crews will be on site June 11 to evaluate repair options. Drivers are advised to use caution.
