The City of El Dorado is announcing a temporary traffic control plan for Towanda Avenue as part of the ongoing Constant Creek Sanitary Sewer Project. Construction crews will begin work on Towanda Avenue on March 5, 2025 to upgrade critical sewer infrastructure, enhancing system capacity and reliability. The detour will be in place for approximately six weeks.
Traffic Impacts & Detour Route:
- Eastbound Towanda Avenue Closed: Beginning Wednesday, March 5, eastbound traffic on Towanda Avenue will be closed from Haverhill Road to Edgemoor Drive.
- Westbound Traffic Open: One-way westbound traffic will be maintained through the work zone to accommodate local access.
- Official Detour Route: Eastbound traffic will be rerouted south via Haverhill Road, continuing east on SW Trafficway, and then north on Douglas Road before reconnecting with Towanda Avenue, or other suitable routes.
- No Left Turns: Access restrictions will be in place at Fredrick Drive, Audrey Drive, Charron Drive, and Edgemoor Drive for safety within the construction area.
- Skelly Elementary Access: Parents and school staff should plan for alternate routes as the closure may impact regular school traffic patterns.
The Constant Creek Sewer Project is a significant infrastructure improvement designed to modernize El Dorado’s sewer system, replacing aging pipelines and mitigating capacity issues in the city's western portion. By enhancing the sewer network, this project will support both residential and industrial development while reducing long-term maintenance costs.
The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during construction. Motorists are urged to follow construction zone signage, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution in work zones.
